Sample VIARA Assessment Question | Understand the VIARA Assessment Format

Sample VIARA Assessment Question

If you are preparing to take the VIARA (Vocational Integration and Role Adaptability Assessment) for the first time, you may be wondering what the assessment looks like and how questions are presented.

The example below is designed to help you become familiar with the format of a VIARA assessment question before your scheduled assessment.

Please note: This is a sample question only. It is provided for demonstration purposes and is not part of the actual VIARA assessment.

How VIARA Questions Work

Each VIARA question presents a realistic workplace situation that you could encounter in your professional role.

For each scenario, you will be presented with three possible responses. Your task is to select the response that best represents how you would genuinely respond if you were in that situation.

Unlike traditional examinations, VIARA is not designed to test your ability to identify a single "correct" answer. Instead, it explores how you naturally approach professional situations, make decisions, and exercise judgement in the workplace.

Each response represents a different professional approach to the situation. Choose the one that most closely reflects how you would respond in real practice.

Sample Scenario

You are working on a busy hospital ward.

A patient quietly says to you:

"I don't think I fully understand what's happening with my treatment. I'm feeling a bit confused."

You have another scheduled responsibility that requires your attention shortly, and there are no immediate concerns about the patient's condition.

How would you most likely respond?

Option A

Take the time to sit with the patient immediately, listen to their concerns, and explain as much as you are able before moving on to your next responsibility.

Option B

Acknowledge the patient's concerns, reassure them that they are important, and explain that you will return as soon as you have completed your immediate responsibility so you can give the conversation your full attention.

Option C

Listen carefully to understand the patient's concern, explain that you want to ensure they receive the most appropriate information, and involve the relevant member of the healthcare team while continuing to support the patient as needed.

How Should You Answer?

When responding to a VIARA scenario:

  • Read the entire situation carefully before selecting a response.
  • Consider the context provided rather than making assumptions beyond the information given.
  • Think about how you would genuinely respond in that situation.
  • Choose the option that best reflects your own professional judgement and approach.

There is no benefit in trying to guess what the assessment is looking for. The most valuable responses are those that honestly reflect your natural decision-making.

Why Does VIARA Use This Format?

Professional practice often involves balancing multiple responsibilities, communicating effectively, and making thoughtful decisions in situations where more than one reasonable approach may exist.

VIARA uses realistic workplace scenarios to better understand how individuals approach these situations. The assessment focuses on authentic professional judgement rather than memorized knowledge or predetermined answers.
